2021 FWCD Summer Reading: Upper School

2021 Summer Reading for US Students

Every Upper School student has three summer reading requirements. 

  1. Universal Book: This is an all US read that brings unity to our community. Students will be assessed on the book and participate in the Universal Book Program in the Fall.
  2. Student Choice Book: Students will read a book from the choice books list and participate in discussions about this book in the Fall. 
  3. Grade-Level Required Reading for English class: Students will complete an English assignment.

2021 Universal Book Information

Counting Descent by Clint Smith was chosen by the Reading Committee to be the 2021 Universal Book for FWCD's Upper School. 

Students will be expected to do the following: 

  1. Obtain their copy of Counting Descent (10th-12th graders will receive their copy from their advisors, 9th graders from their English teachers, and new students from Mrs. Wakeland).
  2. Read Counting Descent during the summer. 
  3. Participate in the Universal Book Program featuring Clint Smith on August 31.
  4. Participate in breakout sessions on September 2.

Sign up for an open book group HERE, but don't hesitate to add your name on the waiting list at the bottom of the signup if your first choice has already been filled. We will try our best to accommodate your preferences! ​

Each Upper School English class has Summer Reading requirements. Select the grade level for the 2021-22 school year to learn about the requirements:
