7th Grade Texas Plants and Animals: Home

Project Description

You are a biologist given the task to educate a group of middle school students on a specific native Texas species.  You will be responsible for identifying a given native Texas plant or animal.  Once properly identified, it will be up to you to create a web page with your research data for the assigned species. The Moncrief Library has many wonderful books to use in your research.

Resource Requirements

Plant

  1. Scientific name of plant                            

  2. Common name of plant

  3. Family name of plant

  4. Picture of plant

  5. Identifying leaf structures:

    1. Shape

    2. Simple or Compound

    3. Venation patterns

    4. Attachment to stem and arrangement on stem

    5. If compound, number of leaflets? Is there a terminal leaflet?

  6. Fruit produced

  7. Type of flowers or cones if applicable

  8. Described location of where it can be found in Texas and other locations.

  9. How does this plant benefit the ecosystem? What does this plant provide for the ecosystem? Give specific examples.

  10. Interesting facts

Animals

  1. Scientific name of animal                

  2. Common name of animal

  3. Family name of animal

  4. Picture of animal

  5. Identifying species:

    1. Phylum

    2. Unique characteristics of all animals in this Phylum

    3. Invertebrate, Vertebrate

    4. Endotherm or Ectotherm

    5. Herbivore, Omnivore, Carnivore, etc.

    6. Description of animals physical features

  6. Habitat                                    

  7. Primary food sources

  8. Described location of where it can be found in Texas and other locations.

  9. How does this animal benefit the ecosystem? What does this animal provide for the ecosystem? Give specific examples.

  10. Interesting facts

 

You must use Noodle tools and include at least three resources for your project, with at least one of those resources being a book. Upon completion of your web page, you will present your page in class and will be graded for inclusion and accuracy of above information and added attention to details, photos, etc.

1) Log in to your FWCD email account.

2) Click on the "waffle" (grid) at the top right corner, and keep scrolling until you find the NoodleTools app.

3) Choose your FWCD email account to login.
