Reading Requirements for US Students

Every Upper School student has three summer reading requirements.

Universal Book: This is an all US read that brings unity to our community. Students will participate in the Universal Book Program and be assessed on the book in the Fall.
Student Choice Book: Students will read a book from the choice books list and participate in discussions about this book in the Fall.
Grade-Level Required Reading for English Class: Students will complete an English assignment.

2022 Universal Book Information

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro was chosen by the Reading Committee to be the 2022 Universal Book for FWCD's Upper School.

Students will be expected to do the following:

Obtain their copy of Klara and the Sun (rising 10th-12th graders will receive their copy from their advisors, rising 9th graders from Mrs. Blan in their English classes, and new students from Mrs. Wakeland).
Read Klara and the Sun during the summer.
Participate in the Universal Book Program and breakout sessions - August 30.
