2022 FWCD Summer Reading: Upper School

Reading Requirements for US Students

Every Upper School student has three summer reading requirements. 

  1. Universal Book: This is an all US read that brings unity to our community. Students will participate in the Universal Book Program and be assessed on the book in the Fall.
  2. Student Choice Book: Students will read a book from the choice books list and participate in discussions about this book in the Fall. 
  3. Grade-Level Required Reading for English Class: Students will complete an English assignment.

2022 US Universal Book: CLICK HERE for information about the 2022 Universal Book, Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro 

Students will be expected to do the following: 

  1. Obtain their copy of Klara and the Sun (9th-12th graders will receive their copy from Mrs. Blan when we meet to talk about summer reading, and new students from Mrs. Wakeland in the US office).
  2. Read Klara and the Sun during the summer. 
  3. Participate in the Universal Book Program and breakout sessions - August 30.

Optional: A Midsummer Night's Dream (Script for US Fall Play)



OPTIONAL: From Mrs. Easter, US Theatre Director: Students who are interested in auditioning for the Upper School Fall Play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, can get a head start during the summer. Click the link below for the script.
