2025 FWCD Summer Reading: Grade 11

11th Grade Summer Reading Requirements

11th graders have three summer reading requirements. 

  1. Universal Book: The universal book is a book that all Upper School students and faculty read. Students read the universal book, complete assigned questions, and participate in the Universal Book Program in the Fall.
  2. Student Choice Book: Students read a book from the choice books list and participate in discussions about this book in the Fall.
  3. Grade-Level Reading for English Class: Students complete an English assignment. 

All summer reading assignments are due August 19, the first day of school.

Universal Book

You will read the required short stories from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and complete the Sherlock Holmes Response Journal as you read. Required stories: "A Scandal in Bohemia," "The Red-headed League," "The Speckled Band," and any two additional stories of your choice.  

Please follow the instructions below. Be sure to view the grading rubric before completing.

  1. Click on this response journal link. It will take you to a page that says "Copy Document."

  2. Click "Make a copy." The document named "Copy of Sherlock Holmes Response Journal" will open.

  3. Change the document name to include your name. (Example: Sarah Blan Sherlock Holmes Response Journal)

Response Journals are due August 19th, the first day of school.

Choice Book

AP Lit summer reading information:

Follow the instructions below.

  3. Change the document name to include your name. (Example: Catherine Collins - AP Lit Summer Reading)

  4. Write your responses in this document and be prepared to turn it in upon the return to school in August.
