Choice Book FAQs

Where are the books listed? Why aren't they here?

In an effort to make the long list of books easier to navigate and learn about, they're listed here this year. It's an experiment and if students think it's better, then we'll continue this way in the future.

What is the choice book program?

The choice book program is our way of encouraging you to read something for pleasure over the summer. It is one of three components of our FWCD summer reading program. In September, you will meet for a book discussion with other people in our Upper School community who have read the same book.

Do I have to read a book off this list?

Yes! Discussion groups will be made up of people who have read the same book (off this list).

How does a book end up on this list?

Every book has been chosen by a FWCD student or faculty member who will then host the book discussion in September.

What's up with "Grades 11-12 ONLY" or "Grades 9-10 ONLY" for some titles?

Like the Moncrief Library, this reading list serves the 9-12 grade student population. Books on the list that have mature content (such as language and/or themes) are limited to 11-12 graders. Books for younger readers are limited to 9-10 graders.

How do I choose a book?

After looking through all of the options, click on the "Click here to choose your book" button on the main page to choose your book.

How do I get a copy of the book?

Students and faculty are responsible for getting copies of their own books. You are welcome to borrow a copy from the Moncrief Library if it is available, borrow from the public library, or purchase from a bookstore. You are also welcome to read in your preferred format - print or digital. If you choose a digital format, please come prepared with your digital copy of the book during discussion.
